Article on NH JW Abuse Case--Paul Berry
by blondie inin the jehovah's witness church, the elders were allowed to tell other church members because everyone in the church is considered an ordained minister.
but they were not allowed to tell authorities outside the church, the court records said.
i wonder if she misunderstood?.

Once again, sitting here, shaking my head, wondering how JayDubs reconcile all this malevolent litigation with the supposed Christian qualities of love, compassion, and humility.
I believe they reconcile it in terms of dollars and cents.

Another name for Christmas???
by ohiocowboy ini absolutely love this time of year, and the warm feelings, and the general feeling of good will emitting from people, but, not really having a faith in christ or religion, i somehow find it difficult to use the word christmas, as it denotes a celebration of christ... .
for those of us who enjoy this season, but aren't really firm believers, can any of us think of a name that could be used instead of the word "christmas", that would have special meaning for believers and non-believers alike, a word that evokes the same emotional feelings?
i have spent the past week decking the halls, and setting up the "christmas" tree(s), getting ready for this holiday which i enjoy so much, but it is that one word "christmas" that somehow makes me feel as though i am contradicting myself, because i no longer have a faith in that higher power.

My son and I are debating whether or not we are going to have our first "Festivas" this year (from the Sienfeld show). I really like the whole idea of "The Airing of Grievences" followed by "The Feats of Strength". After more than 35 years of Christmas I am ready for a change in the routine. I'll still have the tree and lights though (because it looks so beautiful) and the presents.

Is Jesus Christ and Michael the ArchAngel one and the same person?
by booker-t ini must admit that as a jw i never really swallowed this belief maybe because i was so young when i was really a staunch jw.
i would have born-again christians tell me that it was impossible for jesus and michael to be the same person and that jw's invented this doctrine.
fast forward to 2004 while i was reading a book on jesus i noticed that some of the early church fathers thought michael was jesus christ i almost fell out of my chair.

Well he was either frightened or suddenly overcome with the urge to quote Psalm 22:1. Or, as I prefer to think, the authors of the gospels of Matthew and Mark (but not Luke and John) felt it was important to show Jesus' particularly Jewish roots at that moment, as well as his identification with King David, as well as, of course, the more human side of Jesus.
There being no *human* side to Michael makes it difficult to match him with the human Jesus.I expected I might get a rationalization like this except that this rationalization does not hold water.
To suggest that Michael who spent thousands and thousands of years in Heavenly Bliss knowing full well what that entailed and that Heavenly experience firmly and deeply imprinted on him for thousands and thousands of years , that he would after only 30+ years as a human forget? Proposterous, absolutely proposterous. It reaches just much too far.
There are JWs now who wait on baited breath every day because they can't wait for God to come and destroy the Earth just so they can live in paradise because they believe it will be paradise because WT has convinced them of that so well. In all the WT publications you see JWs smiling gleefully as the world is being obliterted around them. Yet all Jesus had was faith and he was frightened, Why, the obvious answer is because he did not have the thousands of years in a previous life and experiences as Michael to alleviate those fears.
Using the logic of him quoting Psalm 22:1 is flawed as he did not quote the full Psalm. If his intent was to quote the Psalm he would have quoted the next two phrases...he didn't. Jesus' remark was clearly born out of fear or a last moment of weakening in his faith. A weakening in faith which would not likely have occured with 5000+ years under his belt of being a Heavenly Angel.

Family members leaving JW's
by timothysmethport ini have a question for anyone that wants to respond.
what happens when a family member wishes to leave the jw religion for either another one or to take an ahteist belief?

It's ironic you mention youth services because that is eventually how they came to live with me, unfortunately they had to go through years of bad situations before being removed.

Sabrina:
I find your reasoning far less sound in your last post, especially the third and second last points.
In your 3rd last point: Why would you want to substitute Michael for Jesus? Using your own logic the bible is as God wanted it to be; so why suggest a deletion Michael's name and replacement with Jesus in that example?
In your second last point: You say that Jesus would be powerful enough to defeat the Devil. Didn't you forget an important being here namely God? or are you now making a case to support the trinity doctrine?
Lastly:
Two points worthy of mentioning (and you have not addressed one of them yet):
1. If Michael is Jesus, then why does the bible not mention God transplanting Mary with Michael's being into her womb?
As well, would not Michael be able to transplant himself into Mary's womb? One would think that the bible would have discussed these things if the bible wanted us to know that Michael is Jesus.
2. When Jesus was crucified, his last remark was "God why have you forsaken me?" He was frightened.
If Jesus had actually spent thousands of years previously living in Heaven as Michael with God almighty in all his Heavenly glory then why should Jesus be afraid of dying and leaving this miserable Earthly plane only to return back to his Heavenly bliss with God almighty. I put it to you that it is because Jesus had never experienced it and therefor had been going only on faith.
In fact after he was resurrected he was far more confident (probably since he had a small taste of heaven). Never once in the NT can I find any passage where Jesus talks to God prior to being crucified about returning to Heaven. He had never experienced it.

She wanted to take our newborn for a car ride without us to visit the other relatives that have "shunned" my wife from the religion/family. I immediately put a stop to the whole thought.
Tim: when I was still married to my ex, she used to dress up our 2 year old in his snowsuit and put him out in the driveway in the dark (it gets dark in winter hear in Canada around 4:30 - 5:00 p.m.) so her parents could pick him up and take him out and my ex wasn't even Disfellowshipped (never baptised). They refused to set foot in our house or even get out of their car to approach our front door when we had our Christmas tree up. This happened a few times and then one day I came home and my son was out in waste deep snow in the dark at the foot of our driveway. standing right behind a snowbank ALONE. When I went in and my ex had explained that this had been the procedure for 2 weeks since our tree was up, I asked "Why would you not go out in the driveway with him?" Her answer was that her parents were mad for having a Christmas tree in the house and did not wish to see her until she took it down.
I am so happy to be free of that craziness.

My experiences are: Yes, any view other than the view as written by the Watchtower Corporation is inspired by Satan and will earn you a one way ticket to a horrible death at the hands of God and his army when Armaggedon arrives which is any second now. They have givien a number of actual dates but it keeps postponed as these dates pass relatively uneventfully.
